Integrative Psychotherapy in St Albans and Online

Integrative Therapy

in St Albans and Online

Taking the step to seek therapy can feel daunting. You might be wondering what to expect, or whether it's the right time. I'm here to answer your questions and help you understand how we might work together.

I offer a free 20-minute initial consultation by phone, or video call. This is your chance to ask questions, tell me a bit about what's brought you to therapy, and see if we're a good fit. There's no obligation. It’s simply an opportunity to start a conversation and help you make an informed decision about your next steps.

My Approach

I am an Integrative Therapist, which means I draw on different therapeutic approaches depending on what suits you best. This flexibility means we're not limited to one way of working. Instead, we can adapt as your needs emerge, using techniques that feel right for where you are in your journey.

Person-Centred

You're the expert on your own life. My role isn't to tell you what to do or how to feel. Instead, I create a non-judgemental space where you can explore your thoughts and feelings openly. You have the capacity to find your own answers when given the right support.

Relational

The relationship between us matters. Therapy works best when there's a genuine connection and trust. I pay attention to how we relate to each other, because how you experience our relationship often reflects patterns in your wider life. This awareness can be powerful.

Trauma-Informed

If you've experienced trauma, I can work in a way that recognises its impact. This means moving at your pace, prioritising safety, and understanding that healing isn't linear.

How I Work

I offer sessions both in person at my St Albans practice and online via a secure video platform. In-person sessions provide a dedicated space away from daily life, while online therapy offers convenience and accessibility, particularly if you're juggling work commitments or live further away.

People come to therapy for all sorts of reasons, and you don't need to be in crisis to reach out. Here are some of the difficulties I can help with:

Anxiety and stress

Depression and low mood

Grief, loss and bereavement

Trauma and post-traumatic stress

Relationship difficulties

Health anxiety

Work-related stress

Confidence and self-esteem

Life transitions and feeling stuck

If you'd like to find out more or arrange your free initial consultation, I'd be happy to hear from you.

FAQs

What can I expect from my first session?

First sessions can feel a little nerve-wracking, and that's completely okay. We'll take it gently. I'll ask you a bit about what's brought you here, what you're hoping to get from therapy, and we'll start to get a feel for how we might work together. There's no pressure to share more than you're ready to.

How do I know if therapy is right for me?

If you've been struggling, feeling stuck, or just carrying something that feels too heavy to manage alone, therapy could help. You don't need to be in crisis to reach out. Many people come to therapy simply because they want to understand themselves better, or because something in their life isn't quite working anymore.

How long does each session last, and how often will we meet?

Sessions are 50 minutes long. Most people meet weekly, at least to begin with. This regularity helps build momentum and gives the work a chance to settle. We can talk about what feels right for you as we go.

How many sessions will I need?

That really depends on you and what you're bringing to therapy. Some people find that a handful of focused sessions is enough to see progress. Others prefer longer-term work to explore deeper patterns. There's no fixed timeline. We'll review how things are going together and take it from there.

What's the difference between counselling and psychotherapy?

In practice, the terms are often used interchangeably, and the boundary between them can be blurry. Generally speaking, counselling tends to focus on specific issues or life events, while psychotherapy often goes a bit deeper, exploring longer-standing patterns and how past experiences shape the present. As an integrative therapist, I draw on both, adapting my approach to what's most useful for you.

Will everything I share stay confidential?

Yes. What you share in our sessions stays between us. There are a small number of exceptions to this, for example, if I had serious concerns about your safety or the safety of someone else, but I'd always aim to talk with you about this first. Confidentiality is something I take seriously, and I'll explain it fully at the start of our work together.
